Above: Stander won her first individual career title by touring the Tecumseh Country Club in a time of 17:06.47,
over 51 seconds better then her time of a year ago.
But Stander wasn’t the whole show for the Lions as three other girls won medals also.

Dear Louisvillians,
With the beginning of the school year, it's evident that schedules will shift for athletes, parents, coaches and community members and fans. Though summer is always a busy time for everyone, with the onset of the fall sports seasons, it's evident that afternoons and evenings as well as weekend days may be spent at sporting practices and events of all kinds. What does that mean for you and your family? Will you attend Louisville sporting events and activities regularly? Do you travel to both home and away games to catch a glimpse of the Louisville Lions in action? How do you balance your work, home and school life?
Attending activities of all kinds and cheering on the Lions are both fantastic ways to show your community support and loyalty. It's enjoyable to watch young people learn how to cooperate and practice teamwork in their quest for victory. It's a rewarding experience to watch improvement and the smiles that erupt on a child's face after a personal or team best. All of these experiences are valuable for the participants and the fans.
Something else that is valuable, however, is something called "me time" which is a chance to relax and rest from the daily activities that seem to consume our hours. I encourage everyone to schedule actual minutes in the day to have this time, in order to preserve our health and mental well-being. Playing hard is important, but resting and taking several minutes a day to simply breathe is also essential.
So, in the midst of penciling in your committments to the calendar, consider a few minutes a day that you can schedule for yourself as "me time." How you spend this time is not as important as carving out these precious reflective moments that everyone truly needs.
Have a wonderful week, Louisvillians!

Paula
