Fire and Rescue Departments both Volunteer and Career honored Bob Hanes, Weeping Water Firefighter on Monday with a processional of apparatus that stretched over one and a half miles on 310th Street, Church Road and Highway 63. Intersections were blocked by Cass County Deputies and the Nebraska State Patrol. The rolling tribute started at Round the Bend Steakhouse and passed the family during the inturnment the Alvo Cemetery.

Who's going to fill his shoes? Bob Hanes was killed in an accident last week in the line of duty while serving his community. Who will pick up where he left off? Weeping Water lost a great man who served the community selflessly his entire life. Many people in surrounding towns also knew Bob. His death is a reminder of how important our volunteer rescue and fire personnel are to us. He wasn't just a guy, just another person on the squad. All the members of the volunteer rescue and fire departments serve because they feel the need to help us. They are our families and our friends. When one is lost, especially in the line of duty, we feel a deeper sense of loss. Who's going to fill his shoes? Someone who is inspired by his devotion to his community. Someone who is drawn to give to the community. Someone who loved Bob and loves his country. And there is no way we can thank any of them enough for all they do for us. Bob gave the ultimate sacrifice and we are humbled. Bob will never be forgotten, his memory will live on and he will continue to inspire by the way he lived his life. RIP, Bob. RIP.

PARK Radio Club Field day - this weekend June 22-23
Just a reminder that this weekend (June 22-23) is Field Day. We will be at the park in Murray as we have for a number of years. It’s a great site with an available shelter and a good skyhook. We welcome everyone to participate as much or as little as they wish.
In order to make better plans, especially for food, we need to have an idea on the number that will be participating. Some have already told me their plans, but if you are planning on participating and haven’t let me know already, drop me an e-mail.
Remember our June meeting will be at Field Day, not the last weekend as usual.

Help spark the Red Cross blood supply this summer
While Independence Day will surely ignite many fireworks extravaganzas, the American Red Cross is counting on volunteer donors to spark the nation’s blood supply. The need for blood is constant, especially around the summer holidays, when eligible donors have even less time in their busy schedules to give. As part of the Red Cross Summer of Stories campaign to increase donations when they historically drop, all presenting donors between July 1 and 15 could win one of five $3,000 American Express gift cards. Donors are also encouraged to visit redcrossblood.org/summer to share their summer blood donation stories and watch videos of patients whose lives were touched by donors.
To learn more and make an appointment to donate blood, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS.
