LIONS CLUB GOLF TOURNAMENT
The 14th annual Murray-Beaver Lake Lions Club Golf Fundraiser Tournament will be held Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Lakeridge Golf Course, Beaver Lake, NE. This fundraiser helps the Lions Club provide services to the Murray-Beaver Lake community in many ways.
The Lions Club helps provide support for those needing eyeglasses, hearing aids, and other essentials for a good quality of life. The club also provides assistance to Conestoga students for school activities and the pursuit of excellence.
The 2012 tournament enabled the Lions to contribute to the development of Cougar Hollow at the elementary school and 2013's tournament went toward scholarships to graduating Conestoga students. Scholarships were also granted to two seniors this year from the Lions.
Please try to get a team together for this tournament. It's for a good cause!
Remember that the Lions is a service organization and we are always looking for new members who would like to help their community.
THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
What do Bike Safety and Omaha Storm Chasers Baseball have in common?
More children ages 5 to 15 are seen in the emergency rooms for injuries related to biking than any other sport. Helmets can reduce the risk of severe brain injuries by 88 percent – yet only 45 percent of children 14 and under usually wear a bike helmet. Safe Kids Coordinator, Jane Husz, aware of these startling statistics, coordinated a bike safety program to reward kids for wearing their bike helmets while riding their bikes. This program is made possible with the help of Omaha Storm Chasers Baseball and local law enforcement officers.
Starting on June 2nd, local law enforcement officers in Sarpy and Cass Counties will be watching for kids that are wearing helmets as they ride their bikes. As Sarpy and Cass County Law enforcement officers observe the helmeted bike riders, the officers will reward them with an official Omaha Storm Chasers Baseball Player Card. Kids that are consistently wearing their bike helmets as they ride around Sarpy and Cass Counties can collect a whole set of Omaha Storm Chasers Baseball Player Cards. We want the helmeted bike riders to encourage their friends to also wear their helmets, so they can trade baseball cards with them. Jane Husz says “We want to teach our children how to be safe on a bike and wearing a bike helmet is an important part of bike safety.”
Here are some other bike safety tips:
•Always use a helmet, regardless of your age.
•Use a bicycle that’s the right size for you so that you will be able to control it properly.
•Make sure the brakes are working and the tires are inflated to the correct pressure.
•Make yourself visible to motorists by wearing bright colors like red or yellow.
•Get rear and front lights that are very bright or flash to increase your visibility.
•Avoid riding your bicycle at night.
•Obey all traffic laws, including stoplights, signs, signals and lane markings.
•Yield to pedestrians.
•Ride your bicycle in the same direction as traffic, never against it.
•Signal when you make turns.
•Be careful near parked cars as someone might suddenly open the door.
•Be careful with cars coming in and out of driveways.
•Alert pedestrians when you’re close to them by saying “passing you on your left” or by using a bell
horn.
•Stop at all intersections before crossing the street.
